Love Wins!

June 24, 2018

“LOVE WINS”! IT WON UPON A TREE WHEN YESHUA, JESUS CHRIST, THE SON OF GOD LAID DOWN HIS LIFE FOR YOU AND ME, WHILE WE WERE YET UNWORTHY OF SUCH LOVE… IN THE MIDST OF OUR MESS AND SIN AND DISFUNCTION… THAT WE MIGHT HAVE LIFE EVEN THOUGH WE WERE CHOOSING DEATH…

The problem with love…

The problem with love is that it is misunderstood as a feeling…but truthfully, Love is a choice!

  • This world says it is something you fall in, but I declare that Love is something you choose to walk in instead of fall into!

The portrayal of love being a bed of roses all the time is just as much an illusion as coming to Christ and everything going perfect evermore with no more trials, tribulations or struggles…

  • But that’s a false sense of love, because that portrayal of love alludes that it is magical and never costs or hurts… but in reality, at times true love hurts… because true love goes beyond self to another…

  • Hollywood has romanticized it into a magical fireworks moment when you kiss that particular someone and your whole world shakes and explosions happen…

  • But see, God’s love came in mercy not in judgement… He came to save… He came in love… to redeem not condemn…

    • Too many nowadays have this mindset that God is out to get them, to smite them, but we can see His heart through Jesus, a heart to save the drowning, not judge them…

The problem with love...

The problem with love is that we have this tendency to measure it out on those we deem worthy…

  • When I see God’s love in sending His Son to die on a cross I don’t see Him measuring it out on only the worthy…

Romans 5:6-8 For while we were still helpless, at the right time Christ died for the ungodly. 7For one will hardly die for a righteous man; though perhaps for the good man someone would dare even to die. 8But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.

  • The kind of love God shows and that we’re to walk in isn’t based on others being deserving of it…. “While we were yet sinners”…

Here’s the thing… We’ve received His love freely, we didn’t earn it, we definitely didn’t merit it, but He gave it to us anyway and praise God He did, but we’re instructed to not just be recipients of this love but to extend it…

The way we love others is a litmus test for us to see where we are in our walk with God…

  • 1 John 3:14 says We know that we have passed from death to life, because we love our brothers. The one who does not love remains in death.

  • We so often have such a consumer mindset… the customer is always right, I have a right, its all about me, but it isn’t!

  • Love isn’t something we are merely to be recipients of… it’s not something we’re just to give or show to others when we deem them worthy, or when they act in a way we think is acceptable, or when they treat us a certain way… when we use love like that, we’re manipulating people…

When we love like that, we're saying, I’ll reward you with love if you measure up to my criteria for you…

  • Did we measure up to God’s criteria for us before He displayed His love?

  • We can go to church, have all kinds of Bible knowledge, we can say we “Love God” all day long, but if we don’t display that in action and with the words we speak to others, we’re just deceiving ourselves… its nothing more than a facade to make us feel better…

    • 1 John 4:20 If someone says, "I love God," and hates his brother, he is a liar; for the one who does not love his brother whom he has seen, cannot love God whom he has not seen.

  • If we don’t love others or if we only show a manipulating kind of love that says “be better and I’ll love you”, if our words don’t reflect that love and our actions don’t show that love, we don’t even know God…. We may know of Him, but we don’t know Him personally…

    • 1 John 4:7 Beloved, let us love one another, for love is from God; and everyone who loves is born of God and knows God. 8The one who does not love does not know God, for God is love.

  • The problem is that too often we sit in the place of the Pharisee with a religious Spirit… We want Jesus’ presence, we feel as though we’re doing Him a favor by entertaining Him, but our heart is self-centered, and our ugly pet religious spirit causes us to issue love based on whom we see is worthy of it…

  • When we don’t see the depth of God’s forgiveness in our own lives, the sincere need of His grace towards us, when we forget that we are only loved by Him because He chose to love us first and we bring absolutely nothing to the table…  when we lose sight of this… we won’t love others the way that He has called us to… he who is forgiven little, loves little.

So, go and love, because "Love Wins"!

We love, because He first loved us. 1 John 4:19
