It’s the 4th of July and all is well, amid flag clad folks braving the early afternoon 90+ degree weather, crowds began to assemble for our annual Middletown Parade. Though we were there to enjoy the parade, there was also another purpose that brought us there... “To Serve”. As we passed out free water to our community, something stirred... something inside said “this is the church”! I was reminded of Jesus’ words in Mark 10:45 “For even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.” And in Mark 9:35 “And he sat down and called the twelve. And he said to them, “If anyone would be first, he must be last of all and servant of all.” Serving others put another way would be “Loving Others”... we love because He first loved us, we serve not out of duty, but out of love. Today, as we celebrate our Independence...our “Freedom”, let’s remember that the Freedom we celebrate as a nation was a gift of many others who served out of love for us, and remember that the freedom we have through Christ Jesus is because of His Service of love towards us. So enjoy your family and celebrate your freedom, but remember to serve others, for this is love!
