Not long ago, I saw the movie "The Greatest Showman” (anybody else seen this movie?). The film is a musical about the birth of show business inspired by the life of P.T. Barnum, an American showman and founder of Barnum & Bailey’s Circus. There are so many themes in this movie that could serve as illustrations for biblical truths.
P T Barnum experienced so much criticism and so many obstacles as he continued to fight for his dream to develop. One journalist in particular just could not be won over by Barnum’s show and had no problem making his views known directly to Barnum and in the papers. Barnum and his performers were cruelly mocked by many people of the city.
But… he did not give up.
As you pursue the things God puts in your heart, big or small, you will face resistance.
Think about Thomas Edison… Thomas Edison's teachers said he was "too stupid to learn anything." He was fired from his first two jobs for being "non-productive." As an inventor, Edison made 1,000 unsuccessful attempts at inventing the light bulb. When a reporter asked, "How did it feel to fail 1,000 times?" Edison replied, "I didn’t fail 1,000 times. The light bulb was an invention with 1,000 steps."
Think about Jeremiah 1:5: Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, And before you were born I consecrated you; I have appointed you a prophet to the nations.
Or Jeremiah 32:27: Behold, I am the LORD, the God of all flesh. Is anything too difficult for Me?
In Jeremiah 1:11, God gives him a vision… And the word of the LORD came to me, asking, “What do you see, Jeremiah?” “I see a branch of an almond tree,” I replied.12“You have observed correctly,” said the LORD, “for I am watching over My word to accomplish it.”
Think about it... there are no dreams, no visions, no lasting marks made without the fires of adversity, opposition and challenge!
If you think its getting tough… that’s GOOD NEWS! That means you’re on the verge of breaking through…
Remember??? WE DO NOT WALK BY SIGHT!!! WE WALK BY FAITH!
Will that be said of you by future generations?
There’s a saying when the going gets tough, the tough get going, but all too often I’m afraid the truth is that when the going gets tough, people freak out and back up… we have a tendency to look for comfort… escapes… the path of least resistance…
But I’m telling you, sometimes you need to seek that path of most resistance because at the end of it will often times be the greatest reward!
GREAT THINGS are BORN out of ADVERSITY!
James 1:12 says this: Blessed is the one who endures trials, because when he has stood the test he will receive the crown of life that God has promised to those who love him.
The problem is, we don’t like opposition!
I believe what God has placed in you matters. I believe the things He calls you to do matter. I believe He will use them to bring joy to your heart, to make His name known, and to help others however that looks in the different seasons of your life, so don’t give up.
Don’t let resistance win!
